Inspirator, Head & Co-Founder
My name is Eleftherios T. Beltsios and I am an MD graduate of the University of Thessaly, Greece. I am currently a resident physician at the Department of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in the University Clinic of Essen.

Since the very beginning of my studies, I have been fascinated by the tremendous impact that basic science research can have on the evolution of clinical medicine. Therefore, I have gotten involved in multiple research projects including in silico, in vitro and in vivo studies, animal models, as well as literature-based research such as systematic reviews and meta-analyses.

In the past I worked in Germany where I served as a research fellow at the University of Lübeck and as a visiting researcher at Charité - Universitätsmedizin, Berlin. Having the opportunity to independently conduct a variety of experiments, along with practicing extensive problem solving during the development of new protocols enabled me to further cultivate my research background. My main focus of interest is cardiovascular science, and I aspire to pursue a combined career as a physician-scientist in the field of cardiothoracic surgery.

Having realized the barriers that many medical students confront in their engagement in research, I have co-founded the AspireMED group. Providing guidance and training in research methodology, as well as opportunities for early involvement in research, AspireMED is dedicated to empowering medical students to start their journey in research.
